MM5 Real-time Forecast and Forecast Sensitivity Web Page

Purpose:

This goal of this research is to understand the characteristics and sensitivity of short range numerical weather prediction (NWP) forecasts and forecast errors over the continental United States

Recent Updates!
We are now running the MM5 Adjoint Modeling system twice daily. Currently, we are looking at the 36 hour sensitivity of the average temperature in the lower troposphere in a region covering Wisconsin to initial conditions. We are now also using this system to look at the sensitivity of 36 hour forecast errors to initial conditions.  Click on the Fcst Sensitivity menu option to the left for graphics and more details!

What's currently available:
At present, this web site displays output from the NCAR/Penn State MM5 model and the MM5 Adjoint Modeling System, which are run twice daily in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at UW-Madison.  In addition , forecast error plots are currently being generated.

Use the menu bars to the left and above to view the settings that are being used for the current twice daily run, or to view the forecast maps for the latest run, or from runs done within the past two days.

In the meantime, feel free to view whatever is available...and please, send an e-mail or go to the guest book to provide comments or suggestions!
